HIGH-PRECISION Machining Needs Today!

DougNoxellIt all started back in 1999 for Doug Noxell after making a discovery that would soon change the course of his professional career.  Mr. Noxell became fascinated with a CAD/CAM software package out of Japan called CAM-TOOL at the previous International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS).  It was like no other CAD/CAM system available in the marketplace due to its innovative approaches like its ability to calculate the toolpaths directly from the surface data.

Upon further investigating, Mr. Noxell soon found himself travelling to Japan in order to further educate himself on this newfound software and technology by touring around to many of the top mold shops utilizing the software and techniques to manufacture molds.

In January of 2001, Doug Noxell became the sole importer of CAM-TOOL for the North American market.  Mr. Noxell began travelling across North America preaching people about his newfound knowledge of high-speed machining (HSM) and machining molds to negative stock with the help of this innovative CAD/CAM system and techniques he's learned over the years and hasn't looked back since.

The 'High-Speed Machining Expert'

Since leaving CAM-TOOL in 2006, Mr. Noxell hasn't slowed down since by continuing on with the machine shop he founded just months prior, as well as continuing to educate the industry on high-speed machining (HSM) by consulting for many of the top machine tool companies, or businesses who wanted to learn the advantages of hard milling and machining to negative stock for more than a decade.

"The future demands better surface finish and increased accuracy,
which we at SURKUT Machine provide 100% of the time."

- Doug Noxell, Owner

He has conducted numerous test cuts for many of the top machine tool companies proving the unthinkable when it comes to using the right combination of programming software, tooling along with cutting edge techniques he's honed over the years.

Some of the companies Mr. Noxell has collaborated with include:

  • Yasda
  • Okuma
  • Johnford
  • Makino
  • Mitsui Seiki
  • Kitamura
  • Creative Evolution
  • and more...

Going Forward

Doug Noxell hopes to continue educating the public and machine tool companies on the benefits of hard milling and high-speed machining (HSM) while continuing to push the envelope and train the next generation with innovative technology at SURKUT Machine, the same company he founded in August of 2005.  Learn more about our Consulting services here.

IMG 8897The AMBA Traveling Seminar

The American Mold Builders Association (AMBA) has had Doug Noxell, along with Roger Goble of OSG USA, Inc. (formerly OSG Tap & Die, Inc.) and Todd Schuett of Creative Technology Corp. travel across the United States holding educational seminars focusing on how the latest high-speed programming techniques, the right tooling and machining techniques combine to change mold manufacturing.

Show Me...

“Come back tomorrow and we will show you.”

That was the invitation from an enterprising mold shop owner in Japan to Doug Noxell, who expressed some disbelief at what he was seeing. He had just looked at the core side of a mold for an automotive grill. This part of the mold was in the final stages of preparation for assembly. Ejector pins, slides and lifters were being installed as he watched. The cavity side of this rather large mold was still on the bed of the machining center, but none of the 3D milling had started. It was set to begin that morning, yet test shots of the finished mold were scheduled for the following afternoon.

“No way can they finish and spot this mold in that amount of time,” Mr. Noxell thought to himself. He asked the translator to verify the invitation.

“Oh, yes. They will be ready,” was the response.

When Mr. Noxell returned the next afternoon, the mold was indeed in the injection press on time—and making good parts. By machining the cavity the rest of the previous day and overnight, the 3D milling was done on time. By leaving no excess stock in the process, the mold could be completed with virtually no hand work and with only a few minutes in the spotting press.
